A Complex Reality That Calls for a Holistic, Person-Centred Approach
Addiction can affect many areas of a person's life, including relationships, health, family circumstances, and social integration. Every person's experience is different, and their needs can vary depending on their life circumstances, experiences, and available resources.
In social work, understanding these factors contributes to appropriate support grounded in listening, respect, and collaboration with diverse partners.
These skills are developed in CDI College's Social Service Intervention – JWW.0V program, where you will learn to analyze situations, understand people's circumstances, collaborate with different partners, and contribute to appropriate interventions with individuals, families, groups, and communities.
Understanding the Circumstances Behind Addiction
Addiction cannot be understood solely through observable behaviours.
Social Services Workers learn to consider the range of factors that may influence a situation, including personal, family, social, and environmental circumstances.
This broader understanding helps identify a person's needs and contributes to support that reflects their circumstances.

Building a Relationship Based on Trust
The helping relationship is essential when supporting people experiencing addiction.
Attentive listening, respectful communication, and a non-judgmental approach can create an environment that encourages open communication and helps people participate actively in the processes that affect them.
This relationship supports an approach that reflects each person's circumstances.
Collaborating With Appropriate Resources
Supporting people experiencing addiction often involves a range of resources.
Social Services Workers collaborate with community organizations, healthcare facilities, social services, and other partners to provide coordinated support that reflects identified needs.
This collaboration can help maintain continuity of services.

Supporting Independence
Social work recognizes the abilities and strengths of each person.
Social Services Workers contribute to the support process by encouraging people's participation, recognizing the resources they can draw on, and respecting their pace.
This approach keeps people at the centre of their own journey.
Adapting the Support Process
Every situation evolves differently.
Needs can change over time, requiring Social Services Workers to adapt their approach, carefully assess the situation, and, when appropriate, maintain ongoing collaboration with different partners.
This flexibility helps keep support relevant as circumstances change.
Training for the Realities of the Field
CDI College's Social Service Intervention – JWW.0V program helps you develop skills in helping relationships, communication, needs assessment, and collaboration with different partners.
