A Human Reality That Affects Many People
Mental health is an integral part of a person's well-being. At different points in life, anyone can face circumstances that affect their emotional balance, ability to manage everyday challenges, or relationships with others. These experiences can affect many areas of life and may require appropriate support.
In social work, understanding mental health challenges helps Social Services Workers better identify people's needs, take a respectful approach, and contribute to support in collaboration with appropriate resources.
These skills are developed in CDI College's Social Service Intervention – JWW.0V program, where you will learn to analyze situations, understand people's circumstances, collaborate with different partners, and contribute to appropriate interventions with individuals, families, groups, and communities.
Understanding Each Person's Circumstances
Mental health challenges can affect people in different ways.
Life experiences, family circumstances, social conditions, and available resources can all influence how a person experiences and responds to a situation.
In social work, taking these factors into account is essential for providing support that reflects each person's circumstances.

Building a Relationship of Trust
The quality of the relationship plays an important role in the support process.
Attentive listening, respectful communication, and a non-judgmental approach can help build trust and provide a better understanding of the person's expressed needs.
This relationship also encourages people to participate actively in the processes and decisions that affect them.
Collaborating With Different Partners
Mental health challenges often require the involvement of different professionals and resources.
Social Services Workers collaborate with professionals, community organizations, healthcare facilities, and other resources to contribute to appropriate support.
This coordinated approach can help maintain greater continuity of services.

Recognizing a Person's Strengths

It also involves recognizing the abilities, resources, and strengths that people can draw on as they move forward.
This approach supports a process centred on each person's potential and independence.
Adapting the Support Process
Every situation calls for an approach that reflects the person's circumstances.
Social Services Workers assess needs, consider the person's life context, and collaborate with various partners to provide support that respects each person's circumstances.
This ability to adapt is an essential skill in the field.
