Understanding Before Providing Support

Every person has their own history, environment, and circumstances. Two people facing a similar situation will not necessarily experience the same challenges or have the same needs. In social work, it is therefore essential to take the time to understand the situation before determining how best to provide support.

Needs assessment helps identify the factors influencing a situation, determine available resources, and inform interventions that reflect the circumstances of each individual, family, group, or community.

These skills are developed in CDI College's Social Service Intervention – JWW.0V program, where you will learn to assess situations, understand people's circumstances, collaborate with different partners, and contribute to appropriate interventions in a variety of settings.

Looking at the Whole Situation

A situation cannot be fully understood by focusing on a single factor.

Social Services Workers learn to consider the various factors that may influence a person's circumstances, whether personal, family-related, social, or environmental.

Through hands-on training and three practicums totalling 690 hours, you will progressively develop your ability to understand different situations, contribute to intervention plans, and work with individuals, families, groups, and communities.
