Some life experiences are shared by many people. Whether they are caregivers, young people, individuals experiencing addiction, or members of other groups with similar experiences, connecting with people facing comparable circumstances can promote understanding, mutual support, and the development of new coping strategies.

In social work, group intervention creates an environment where people can share, reflect, and work together while respecting each participant's needs and individual journey.

These skills are developed in CDI College's Social Service Intervention – JWW.0V program, where you will learn to understand people's circumstances, collaborate with different partners, and contribute to appropriate interventions with individuals, families, groups, and communities.

Encouraging Discussion and Sharing

Group intervention gives participants an opportunity to share their experiences in a respectful environment.

These conversations can provide a better understanding of shared experiences, introduce different ways of approaching challenges, and help reduce the sense of isolation some people may experience.

This group dynamic can strengthen the support process while encouraging everyone to participate.

Learning From One Another

Each participant brings their own experiences, strengths, and perspective.

Group discussions can introduce new perspectives, encourage the exchange of ideas, and highlight how similar circumstances can be experienced in different ways.

Developing Social Skills

Group intervention also provides opportunities to develop a range of interpersonal skills.

Group activities are designed around the objectives of the intervention and the needs of the participants.

Social Services Workers help create an environment that encourages participation, facilitate discussions, and adapt activities to the dynamics of the group.

This approach encourages participants to become involved while respecting their individual circumstances.

A Complementary Approach

Group intervention does not replace other forms of support.

Training for the Realities of the Field

CDI College's Social Service Intervention – JWW.0V program helps you develop skills in group facilitation, communication, helping relationships, needs assessment, and collaboration with different partners.

Through hands-on training and three practicums totalling 690 hours, you will progressively develop the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to interventions with individuals, families, groups, and communities.

An Approach Built on Sharing and Collaboration

Group intervention plays an important role in social work because it gives people an opportunity to move forward together while respecting each person's individual circumstances.

By encouraging discussion, participation, and collaboration, Social Services Workers help create environments where participants can share experiences, build on their strengths, and progress at their own pace.
