Working With Communities to Address Local Needs

Social issues do not affect individuals alone. They can also affect families, neighbourhoods, and entire communities. Challenges related to isolation, poverty, access to resources, or social inclusion often require different people and organizations to work together toward common goals.

In social work, community work involves collaborating with individuals, organizations, and local partners to support initiatives that reflect community needs and contribute to collective well-being.

These skills are developed in CDI College's Social Service Intervention – JWW.0V program, where you will learn to assess needs, collaborate with different partners, and contribute to appropriate interventions with individuals, families, groups, and communities.

Understanding the Community

Every community has its own characteristics.

Social conditions, available resources, population needs, and community-specific issues can all influence which approaches may be appropriate.

Understanding these factors helps Social Services Workers contribute to initiatives that reflect the community's needs and circumstances.

Working With Community Organizations

Community organizations play an essential role in many communities.

They provide services, activities, and support to different populations while working with a variety of local partners.

Social Services Workers may collaborate with these organizations to support initiatives that address population needs.

Social Services Workers help identify these resources and collaborate with different partners to facilitate access to them and support people throughout the process.

This approach helps communities make better use of the resources available to them.

By recognizing people's ideas, experiences, and abilities, community work can contribute to initiatives that reflect the population's expressed needs.

CDI College's Social Service Intervention – JWW.0V program helps you develop skills in communication, helping relationships, needs assessment, and collaboration with different partners and community resources.

Through hands-on training and three practicums totalling 690 hours, you will progressively develop the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to supporting individuals, families, groups, and communities.
