  • Overall Experience

    Leanne Foy - Winnipeg

My overall experience with CDI College has been really positive. At 40 years old, I was unsure if I would be capable to comprehend college and keep up with their compacted work schedules. After I started, I found that I was loving it. Any troubles I had with the work the instructors were right there to help me through it with out making me feel dumb for simple mistakes or misunderstanding of the question at hand. I lost my father during my course and had to miss about a week of class the instructors helped me catch up any missed work so that I was quickly back at the same spot as the rest of my class. I am a 40-year-old grandma who never finished high school and has been out of school for 20 some odd years and I am graduating soon. If I can do it so can you!!!

  • Learning Everyday

Sean Sousa - Addictions and Community Services Worker, Winnipeg

My instructor is great - if there is any question I dont understand, she would spend the time one on one until I get it. Everyone is so supportive - going to class almost feels like group therapy, which really helps me grow day to day, and also, to help me learn more about myself. Overall, I have loved coming to school. ...Everyday we gain insight through our instructor or other students, which helps us deal with our vices. If it wasnt for this class, I Dont know where I would be. I wouldnt have the comfort or determination I do now, and I wouldnt have been able to set the goals for future.

The instructor breaks down the assignments if we cant understand the concepts. I enjoy that she takes the time to explain more about it rather than leave us in the dark. It really helps give me a better learning experience. The wall of inspiration that is displayed in class is one of my favorite components of our school environment. It shows how supporting and caring the students (and instructors) are. The overall experience on campus has been enjoyable, too. Its quiet and not too fast paced.

Shannon Habinski - Addictions and Community Services Worker, Winnipeg

This is no easy talk to find the right words for how Nadine has already, in such a short period of time, impacted and inspired my life. Here is a few poems that that I believe can do so. The dream begins with a teacher who believes in you, who tugs and pushes and leads you to the next plateau, sometimes poking you with a sharp stick called truth. Dan Rather (b1931) American TV Journalist. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with me everyday. Thank you for your style that helped me every day. You make it fun, and help them smile, and build our futures, all the while You spark our interest and make us thing, to help us find the missing link. Building minds alone is not an easy mission and needs someone special. How you do it, is not a guess. You simply are the best! -Unknown Real success is finding your lifework in the work you love. - David Mc Collough. Dont limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, you can achieve - Mary Kay Ash. This is how I feel in my classroom. My experience on campus has been such a positive one, starting from the first time I Walked in the door until the time I Walked out of the door. For myself Ive been out of school for so long and now I cant wait to go back every day. It is such a rewarding, amazing place. The whole atmosphere totally rocks! • Bring Text to Life

Julianna Kapty - Intra-Oral Dental Assistant, Winnipeg

I graduated from CDI college in 2007 as an Intra Oral Dental Assistant. I worked in the field for a few dentists and as an oral surgeon for 3 years before being hired in 2010 to be the Clinic Assistant at CDI college. When I was studying dental assisting, one of my classmates told me she thought I would have made a great instructor because of the way I had been helping her through the program. I always had a love for education and initially applied to be in the faculty of Education at U of M. Life chose a less direct path for me to get where I am today. I love to use stories from the dental offices I have worked for in the past - whether funny, sad, embarrassing or inspirational. The students get a kick out of the things we tell them and it seems to bring the text to life if they have a story to relate it to

  • Opportunity Awaits

Colette Nichols - Intra-Oral Dental Assistant, Winnipeg

My mother first introduced me to the field of Dental Assisting. I started chair side dental assisting in 2001 and, after falling in love with the field, I decided to pursue the career. I was given the opportunity to continue working full time as a chair side dental assistant and take the program through Independent Study for The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. The program was tough and all of the theory was done by correspondence but it game the opportunity to learn hands on job related experience. Once I completed all of the necessary theory I completed my Level II Intra Oral criteria. Wrote my National Dental Assisting Exam in 2005, which allowed me to become Certified and able to be Licensed to work in any province in Canada. Through my travels Ive been able to experience all different types of the dental field. After moving from Newfoundland to Manitoba, I wanted to try something Ive never done before. When the posting came up to cover a maternity leave position I saw it as a great opportunity to do just that. That is what inspired me to pursue a teaching career in this discipline. I think my age and personal story inspired students. When they find out how young I am and how I got to be in this position I think they see a great opportunity to succeed. I enjoy telling them that Dental Assisting has showed me many different aspects of the field. Its given me great personal development skills and has allowed me to experience life in different provinces. The Dental Assisting department at CDI College Winnipeg is run by a great bunch of ladies with excellent career experiences. I think that is what makes the program a success.

  • My First Choice

Kimberly Bennett - Addictions and Community Services Worker, Winnipeg

Its a great feeling, knowing your instructor is willing to work with you to make your educational experience a positive one. This school feels like a big family, as every instructor knows who we are. All of them are willing to help, even if you are not in their program. Respect is major. We spend some of our class time reading up on relevant current events in our community. This, along with much of the sharing that goes on in the class, helps keep things feeling innovative and fresh. I completed my Business Admin, and Accounting and Payroll here in 2007. When I was looking to further my education again CDI was my first choice.

I am always engaging in education and as an instructor, to open myself to learn from my students as much as they learn from me. I encourage inner growth with my students. To inspire them with personal stories as well as stories from the field. To try and empower them to lead and be the change they are seeking in themselves and the field. My students inspire me to continue instructing. We are all human an even though we all make mistakes, we grow and develop together. I want to make their experience one to remember. Creativity, open sharing and school spirit creates this.

We dont have to be afraid to make mistakes - everyone always treats each other with respect. All of this has really helped me develop my self confidence: Im not nearly as nervous as I once was. CDI has helped change my life, and I cant wait to graduate.

  • Love This School

Ashley Parker - Addictions and Community Services Worker, Winnipeg

I have not had any negative experiences from ANYONE in this school. Everyone is very helpful and seem to always try their best to inspire me, and make me feel comfortable. Learning new concepts is easy and fun to understand (and remember) - especially when my instructors share their personal experiences in the field. There is always an example available to things we hear in class, making learning easier than its ever been. I love this school and Im very happy I finally decided to do it!

  • I Enjoyed My Time

Crystal Dalke - Addictions and Community Services Worker, Winnipeg

My teacher, Tara, has a very unique way of teaching the material to the class. That, along with the smaller class sizes, helped me better understand the content and made it easier to concentrate on assignments. I really enjoyed my time on campus.

  • Setting the Tone

Rob Mitchell - Graphic Design, Winnipeg

I have a lot of experience in my field, as I have worked in the Visual Arts industry for the past three decades. I currently own and operate Digpix Media, an internationally award winning television and design company. By remaining active in the industry while teaching, I am able to adapt to changing industry tends and offer my students added value, along with other educational opportunities. For example, I teach the development of iPad/iPhone apps as a part of their portfolio development course. This helps my students create meaningful projects that are relevant in todays world. Everyday I treat my students as if we are in the work place. We spend time communicating, discussing work ethic, time management and quality over quantity. I try to instill passion in everything they do and have some fun along the way. Teaching is something I have wanted to do for awhile now - I am excited to pass on some of my old school skills and give students the benefit of my experience.

  • Lets Have Fun

Tara Macumber - Addictions and Community Services Worker, Winnipeg

I try to inspire my students by having fun. Laughter relaxes people and gets them thinking while learning. Pressure, on the other hand, creates tension - something that may hinder personal development. I have been in this field for 3.5 years and have two separate degrees from the University of Winnipeg and Applied Counselling. I have have collected various years worth of experience through travel and from teaching youth, adults and staff at the Behavioural Health Foundation. I have a lot of information and experience to share and I hope to provide students with knowledge, care and inspiration.
