Professional Legal Assistants are the Heart of Modern Law Firms

June 8, 2009 | Alberta

Careers in the legal profession are both challenging and exciting, and the job opportunities continue to grow. Professional Legal Assistants aid lawyers with the compilation of legal documents, research work and help prepare cases for trial. In addition, they are responsible for liaising with clients and ensuring that cases are kept on track. In other words, they are vital links between lawyers and their clients.

PLAs require specialized career training to work in legal offices and departments. CDI’s Professional Legal Assistant program will give students an understanding of the Canadian courts system, legal rights, practices and procedures. As well, they will become familiar with preparation of wills, estates, real estate, corporate and commercial law, civil litigation and family law.

CDI graduates will be prepared to compete for employment in private law firms or corporate legal departments. Other opportunities include real estate and trust companies, financial institutions, and federal, provincial and municipal governments.
