CDI’s Edmonton City Center Campus Director represents Copper Jackets at N.P.D.A Luncheon

Edmonton, AB – November 29, 2011 – CDI College’s Kyle Ferbey, Director of the Edmonton City Center campus, attended the National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon on November 17, 2011 on behalf of the Copper Jackets, the official corporate ambassadors of the Edmonton Oilers. The organization was nominated by the Edmonton Christmas Bureau for the 2011 Social Service award.

In addition to strengthening support for the Edmonton Oilers in the city and across Northern Alberta, the Copper Jackets are actively involved in the community. The organization raises over $250,000 annually for various charities, including more than $100,000 each year in support of the Christmas Bureau.

“I love being a Copper Jacket because I am a huge Oilers fan,” said Ferbey, “but being able to do charity work alongside the organization is phenomenal. The 25 members all work so hard to ensure that hungry people are fed and our youth are inspired by education. It’s a good feeling being able to pause for a second and know that we’re making a difference.”

The National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon honours and acknowledges outstanding achievement by individuals, foundations, corporations, volunteers and nonprofit organizations for contributing their time, talent, financial support and other resources to Edmonton’s philanthropic community.

For Ferbey, this sense of community involvement is also directly related to his role as a campus director at CDI College. This past September he issued an Apprentice-style challenge to his campus staff and instructors to sell pizza on the street in support of local charities. As a result, five teams raised more than $10,000 in a few hours. More recently, he’s encouraged his staff to grow moustaches in support for Movember, the month-long prostate cancer awareness fundraiser.

“It’s extremely important that we give back to the community we live in,” he adds. “And, as a leader at this campus, I think it’s important to set an example for the students, too.”
