Important Update on Recent Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) Decision

(Updated on October 28, 2026)

On October 6, 2026, the Ontario Ministry of Colleges, Universities, Research Excellence and Security paused OSAP payments to students attending private postsecondary institutions, while it conducts a province-wide review of the OSAP system in the private sector.

This pause applies to all private career colleges in Ontario, including CDI College, and affects outstanding OSAP payments for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 school years. The pause will remain in place until the government completes its review.

We understand that this may be stressful if you rely on OSAP to help pay for your studies. However, you still have options and you don't need to figure it out alone. Our team is available to discuss other financing options and answer questions about next steps.

Other Ways to Fund Your Studies

Our students fund their studies in many different ways. Below are a few options you may be eligible for, depending on your situation and needs. Eligibility requirements and conditions vary by program or provider, so we encourage you to review the details directly with the organization responsible.

Loans and Lines of Credit

  • Bank student loans: Banks, trust companies, and credit unions offer student loans and lines of credit. We recommend you contact your financial institution of choice directly about what’s available to you.

  • Windmill Microlending: CDI College is proud to partner with Windmill Microlending, a registered charity offering low-interest career loans to skilled immigrants and refugees who are training or retraining for their careers in Canada.

Using Your Savings

  • Registered Education Savings Plan (RESP): If you are the beneficiary of an RESP, those funds may be used toward the cost of an eligible post-secondary program. Contact your plan provider to ask about withdrawals.

  • RRSP Lifelong Learning Plan (LLP): The LLP lets you withdraw money from your RRSP to pay for full-time education or training for yourself, your spouse, or your common-law partner and repay it over time. Conditions apply.

Ontario Employment and Training Programs

  • Ontario Job Grant: If you are currently employed or have a job offer, your employer may be able to apply to the Government of Ontario for funding to cover some or all of your training costs. Students cannot apply on their own, so if this option fits your particular circumstance, we recommend speaking with your employer.

Support for Indigenous Students

Funding is available to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis students through several financial programs. Below are a few options that may be available to you, depending on your specific status and program of choice.

Please note: Funding options are subject to eligibility requirements, approval, and availability. Not all options will apply to every student or program at CDI College, and some may have tax implications. Please contact the respective provider for eligibility requirements and application processes.
