VANCOUVER, BC – October 3, 2016 – In honour of World Heart Day on September 29, CDI College spent the month of September raising money and awareness for cardiovascular health. Over $4,200 has been raised by our campuses nationwide. All proceeds will be donated to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.“It's an honour for us to do our part and help promote awareness to heart disease and health, “said Victor Tesan, President of CDI College. “This is a great cause and an opportunity to drive awareness to cardiovascular health. Many of our campuses went above and beyond to help raise money for the Foundation. CDI College is proud to be part of such a rewarding cause, especially since we offer a variety of healthcare programs.”
According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, heart disease is responsible for more than one in four deaths in Canada while nine in 10 Canadians – approximately 24 million people – have at least one risk factor for heart disease and stroke. While cardiovascular disease is no longer Canada’s #1 cause of death, it is the leading cause of death and disability in the world, killing 17.5 million people globally each year. According to the World Heart Federation, that number is expected to rise to 23 million by 2030.
“I am thrilled to see how passionate and eager our students are to contribute to such an amazing cause,” said Tesan. “Every time we hold a fundraiser, our students are so enthusiastic to not only tackle the goals we’ve set, but exceed them.”
Founded in 2000, World Heart Day was created to inform people around the globe that heart disease and stroke are the world’s leading causes of death. It also raises awareness about cardiovascular disease and encourages both people and policymakers to act. World Heart Day takes place on the 29th of September every year and is organized by the World Heart Federation.
