This course examines the role of Worker's Compensation Boards and relevant disability legislation impacting workplace injuries. Key topics include the worker's compensation claim process, including submitting forms and the role of OHS professionals in assisting with applications, managing disability cases, developing return-to-work plans, and effective communication with involved agencies and adhering to applicable legislation.

This course explores the legal landscape surrounding workplace safety in Canada. Students will go into fundamental legal principles, delve into Canadian occupational health and safety (OHS) laws, and examine environmental legislation to ensure responsible practices. Ethical theories are explored to guide decision-making, while worker rights and responsibilities under safety legislation are clarified. The course also examines the role of the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (BCRSP) in maintaining professional standards.

This course supplies students with the knowledge and skills to promote workplace wellness and overall employee health. Key topics explored include designing and implementing injury and disease prevention programs, disability management programs, and strategies to address work factors impacting worker well-being.

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to design ergonomic workspaces, promoting both safety and efficiency for staff. Students will explore the risks associated with repetitive stress injuries and improper posture, learning to assess and optimize workplaces for ergonomic principles.

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to navigate emergency situations effectively. Through interactive learning, students will examine various emergency plans and procedures, including roles and responsibilities within those plans. With a specific focus on fire prevention and response, the course delves into unique emergency response techniques, management strategies, drill preparation, and overall preparedness. Additionally, students will explore relevant National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards for emergency management.

This course covers the fundamentals of body functions and processes for illness and injury prevention. Key topics explored include anatomy and physiology, toxicology, chemical hazards, physical hazards, and air quality. 

This course provides participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively manage incidents of the course will cover incident prevention, investigation, reporting, and health and safety documentation requirements for regulatory and government agencies. The course also explores different incident investigation techniques and incident theories.

Basic theoretical and operational knowledge of the hazards and techniques that may be encountered in the workplace are discussed. Students will identify hazards and safe operating procedures that include safeguard systems, personal protective equipment, hazardous energy, materials handling and storage, hoisting and rigging equipment, powered industrial vehicles, hand and portable power tools, woodworking machinery, welding and cutting, metalworking machinery, automated
systems or processes, confined spaces, and fall protection. Process safety refers to the prevention of unintentional releases of chemicals, energy, or other potentially dangerous materials (including steam) during chemical processes that can have a serious impact on the plant and environment. Students will study how industrial processes can affect worker and environmental health and safety.

This course provides students with the fundamentals of environmental management, focusing on identifying and mitigating environmental hazards. It delves into the requirements of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) based on the ISO 14001:2015 standard. Through interactive learning, students will explore key areas such as environmental emergency procedures, hazardous spill management, and environmental control systems. 

This course prepares participants with the fundamentals of performing a safety audit and analyzing the results. Key topics explored include auditing principles, management system evaluation, the auditor's role, internal versus external audits, conducting inspections and interviews, and developing actionable plans.

This course builds on the skills learned in the Student Success Strategies course or its equivalent. It provides information on how to use communication skills to make 
successful presentations to prospective employers, uncover the hidden job market, and identify employment opportunities. Students engage in self-assessment to identify transferable skills and learn how to effectively communicate these to employers. The course also introduces the use of artificial intelligence (AI) as a career support tool. Students apply AI to assist with resume and cover letter development, job searching, and interview preparation, while maintaining their own authentic voice and critically evaluating AI-generated content. Students may be videotaped during a mock interview and will participate in the analysis of their performance in the interview.
