Donate a new or used bra towards CDI College’s breast cancer awareness initiative

Surrey, BC – August 28, 2012 – For the fourth year in a row, CDI College is supporting the fight against breast cancer this October with the Bras for a Cause initiative. This unique and eye catching effort is designed to raise awareness for breast cancer and this year strings of bras will be flown in both Winnipeg, MB and Surrey, BC.

Winnipeg Campus Director, Tahl East said, "As a college that supports our community, we want to let everyone know about the importance of breast cancer research this October."

At CDI College, October is a time to wear pink and show support for the cause, but the months leading up to it are just as important. Bras will be collected at campuses in Winnipeg, Surrey, Vancouver, Burnaby, Victoria, Abbotsford and Richmond throughout September, leading up to the big event. The college has also enlisted other organizations to lend a hand with the Bras for a Cause event, including the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, BC Lions, the City of Winnipeg, Manitoba Hydro and MTS.

"It started when one of our instructors was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 38 and her colleagues began to organize a bake sale to raise awareness and funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation," East said. "Students and staff have made it a sellout event each time it was held."

Once again staff and students will also participate in the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation’s Run for the Cure. Over the past two years, the CDI College team has raised more than $25,000.

The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is dedicated to creating a future without breast cancer and works collaboratively to fund, support and advocate for:

  • Relevant and innovative research,
  • Meaningful education and awareness programs,
  • Early diagnosis and effective treatment; and
  • A positive quality of life for those living with breast cancer.

CDI College is a strong supporter of many charitable organizations and events that benefit the communities it lives and works in.

"We continually show our support for the community through the charitable actions by our staff and students," East explained. "Many of our students are being trained to become caregivers in the healthcare sector. This is a terrific way to become involved in helping others before they graduate."

CDI College is accepting donations of new or used bras until September 27, 2012. Bras may be dropped off at the main desk of the Winnipeg campus or at any CDI College campus in BC.
