YWCA offers programs to women and girls of all ages during the Week Without Violence

Vancouver, BC - October 12, 2010 - The YWCA is building a world free of violence, one week at a time. The YWCA Week Without Violence is an annual campaign that works toward creating safer communities to live, work, and play through activities and events organized by the YWCA. It's held during the third week of every October and this year, it runs from October 10-15, 2010.

YWCA Canada

Created in 1995, YWCA Canada now works with schools, law enforcement agencies, faith groups, and community organizations in more than 90 countries around the world to find solutions to violence.

Violence Against Women

Throughout the week, the YWCA Week Without Violence will address different types of violence against women by exploring themes such as school safety, media awareness, and harassment in the workplace. There will be various events including Power of Being a Girl, a leadership conference for girls ages 12-17 focusing on preventing violence in the lives of girls and young women; Safe Surfing, a social media workshop that promotes Internet safety in schools; and Art in Action, where local singers, poets, playwrights, or artists are invited to help create an anti-violence art exhibit in the community.

A career in Addictions and Community Services is a great way to get involved with an organization like the YWCA. Fill in the form to your left to find out more about the Addictions and Community Services Worker program at CDI College.
