November 22, 2012 | Ontario

Curriculum designed to prepare grads for careers in the game industry in just 72 weeks

Toronto, ON – November 22, 2012 – In response to the growth of Canada’s video game industry, CDI College is launching the Game Development and Design program at its campus in Toronto.

“Canada’s video game industry is the third largest in the world, right behind the US and Japan, and it’s expected to grow,” says Larry Heinzlmeir, VP of Marketing for CDI College. “As growth continues, video game companies will continue to seek out imaginative people who possess the technical skills needed to create the next big hit. The Game Development and Design program is designed to help students hone the skills they need to excel in the industry.”

In 72 weeks, students in the Game Development and Design program will acquire the technical skills and master the industry-standard technology used in the game, animation and CGI industries. Working with industry-experienced instructors, they’ll study fundamental art and design concepts including colour theory, life drawing and game theory. The program also covers character design and modeling, storyboard development, game design, animation, digital effects and lighting techniques.

Upon graduation, students will have assembled an impressive portfolio that showcases their artistic talents and technical abilities. Grads will be able to apply for jobs with game development studios, video game design companies and computer animation studios. Outside of the video game industry, they may also find employment with industrial design firms, software companies, and special effects and post-production studios.
