New program gives Toronto-area residents opportunity to train for in-demand social service career

Toronto, ON – October, 6, 2011 - CDI College is introducing a new academic program to its Toronto campus: the Addictions and Community Service Worker diploma program. This 50-week program includes classroom courses and a mandatory 320-hour clinical placement. Students will be immersed in their studies within a tight-knit classroom community and one-on-one support from industry experienced instructors.

Students interested in getting their careers started in healthcare and addictions care will take courses focusing on assessment and treatment planning, healthcare administration, and counselling training. In-depth knowledge and skills in prevention and intervention, case management, psychology, youth and family issues, and pharmacology will help students better understand the field.

With the Canadian outlook for community and social service workers positive for the next few years, graduates will be able to establish careers in their healthcare community. Prospective jobs can be found in community services, group homes, mental healthcare centres, correctional facilities, and facilities for the physically and developmentally handicapped.
