Manitoba may witness a major demand for nurses in the near future, according to the results of the recent study by the Canadian Institute for Health Information. The survey revealed that 40.2 per cent of Manitoba's nurses - about 5,000 workers - are age 50 or above. The statistic break down found that 13.2 per cent of the province's practical nurses are at the age of 60 or over, which is the highest in Canada, and well above the national average of 8.3 per cent.

"There's a significant proportion of nurses who just have to have that one day where they are saying, 'That's it, that's all. I am truly done.' And they'll walk out of the building in busloads," stated Karen Sadler to the Winnipeg Free Press. Sadler is the president of the St. Boniface Hospital.
