• Student Success Strategies [SSS4]

  • The purpose of this course is to optimize learning through equipping students with effective study techniques. This course also provides an introduction to personality styles that will be encountered in the workplace and allows students to practise appropriate and productive interaction between the various styles. Emphasis is placed on the types of communication that work best with each style in order to achieve a good working relationship and to manage and resolve conflicts that arise. Students are also introduced to strategies for setting personal goals, managing time, and managing the stress that results from study or work and builds on positive group dynamics and setting expectations for student success.

• Microsoft Word [MSW2]

  • This course introduces the students to word processing with Microsoft Word 2016. Relying very heavily on a hands-on practical training approach, students learn by doing through skills based simulations, training and assessments. The course starts with an overview of Microsoft Office 2016 where you will learn about the common features of the Office applications and file management fundamentals. The course then focuses on the core features of Microsoft Word where students learn proper document formatting, organization and editing using the tools and features of the ribbon. The course will then continue with more advanced topics such as working with tables, lists, objects, templates footnotes and endnotes and mail merges. Finally the course will explore the collaboration features of Word 2016 that allow users to share and collaborate on documents through the use of track changes, sharing and reviewing and the use of OneDrive.

• Effective Business Writing [EBW4]

  • The workplace of the twenty-first century demands excellent communications skills. The focus of this course is on learning writing techniques that ensure effective business communication. Achieve an effective style by using precise verbs, concrete nouns, and vivid adjectives; write memorandums and e-mail messages that deliver information and make requests; write letters and memorandums that request information concisely and promote goodwill; apply skillful writing techniques in refusing requests; compose carefully planned sales letters; write letters of appreciation, congratulation, sympathy, recommendation, and introduction; write effective formal and informal reports; write a formal report including data, using tables, charts, and graphs.

• Business Math [BMT4]

  • An introduction to the fundamental principles and concepts of business mathematics. Students will be shown how to apply these principles and concepts to solve practical business problems in regards to marketing and finance.

• Business Essentials [BESO]

  • Business Essentials provides an overview of business management today, including forms of ownership and the ways managers carry out their basic management functions in a skillful and inventive way.

• Accounting Fundamentals 1 [AFD100]

  • This course is an introduction to the fundamental principles and practices of accounting as a device for reporting business activity. It provides the student with an understanding of the underlying theory and principles of accounting. The construction of financial statements as they evolve from business transactions and records is emphasized using the rules of double-entry bookkeeping. In addition, adjusting journal entries and everyday transactions for both service and retail businesses are recorded coupled with the preparation of basic financial statements. Introduction to Accounting Financial Statements and Accounting Transactions Analyzing and Recording Transactions Adjusting Accounts for Financial Statements Completing the Accounting Cycle and Classifying Accounts.

• Entrepreneurship [ENT4]

  • The material for this course was created for you and thousands of dreamers like you who want to start your own business. Most first-time entrepreneurs start out with little more than an idea. This course lets you combine your vision with the practical approach and shows you how to make your idea into a functional business plan. A business plan is critical to a new business venture. Students will examine the step-by-step process of logical analysis of every aspect of the proposed business, and develop strategies to combat the principal risks that will face the business owner-manager.

• Human Resources [HRE4]

  • Employees are the most valuable asset of a business. All aspects from hiring to performance appraisal are examined utilizing the case study approach.

• Fundamentals of Management [MNGMT]

  • This course aims to build upon the student’s fundamental knowledge of business in general with a particular focus on management. Students will explore the management skills that are essential in today’s business environments. Students will explore the role of management in areas of planning, organizing, leading and controlling processes.

• Introduction to Management Information Systems [IMISY]

  • Information and data are the fuel that drive businesses today. Managing, protecting, accessing and analyzing information in a timely manner is the cornerstone of a company’s decision making processes leading to intelligent business decisions. This course provides an overview of the various information systems that are essential parts of business processes in today’s global business landscape.

• Strategic Web Design [STWBD]

  • In this course students will be able to create a search engine-friendly website. Students will be introduced to the website planning process, and discover the web design tools, principles and strategies that will allow them to design create and publish a fully functional web site. Students will become familiar with web hosting principles and integrate social media effectively on their websites.

• Digital Marketing Fundamentals [DGMKF]

  • In this course students will learn the key concepts of digital marketing. The course will explore the importance of branding, audience reach and demographics in the marketing strategies. Students will learn how to utilize analytics and the importance of goals as part of the marketing processes. The course will explore the importance of domain names, keywords and how to leverage Search Engine Optimization strategies. Pay Per Click, Online marketing, email marketing and budgeting are also discussed within the context of this course.

• Social Media Marketing Strategies [SMMKS]

  • After completing this course, students will be well-versed in how to use the right social media platform(s) and how to best utilize the features offered by each platform to enable them to help corporations to reach their target audience and achieve their goals. Seven channels are examined in-depth: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Yelp, and Pinterest.

• Customer Relations and Interpersonal Skills [B1075R]

  • In business, as in other interpersonal contact, the impression formed in the first 10 to 15 seconds is crucial to the success of the relationship. The importance of the customer and of customer relations to business success is examined through case studies and role-playing. Students will learn relevant theories of human behaviour and how they may be applied to improve customer relations.

• Project Management [PMG4]

  • Project management is of paramount importance to all organizations to improve effectiveness and efficiency. This course utilizes the popular Microsoft Project application program with realistic case studies and step-by-step guidance.

• Marketing [MKT4]

  • Students are provided an introduction to marketing practices focusing on problem definition and solution. Topics will include marketing concepts, marketing strategies, and buyer behaviour. The product promotion, distribution, pricing and public relations model are emphasized.

• Business Law [BLAO]

  • An introduction to Canadian business law is provided by using the case study approach that leads to a grasp of the key elements. The emphasis is on the application of the law to practical business situations.

• Career & Employment Strategies [CES4]

  • This course looks at the planning, preparation, execution, and follow-up stages of an interview: how people find jobs; employer expectations; presenting an enthusiastic attitude; focusing on the right job; transferable skills; the job interview; effective resume preparation; cover and thank you letters; effective telemarketing; tapping the hidden job market; handling objections; job search management; self-confidence and self-esteem building; mock interviews (video-taped); and individual counselling and coaching.

• Business and Digital Marketing Management Practicum [BDM100]

  • Students will be placed in actual work places related to their field of study and will be expected to act as a regular employee in order to gain the valuable real world experience that so many employers seek. Students are encouraged to find their own work experience placement; however, once placed, continuation in that placement is mandatory.

• Business and Digital Marketing Management Co-op [BDMCP]

  • A co-operative (co-op) placement is designed to provide students with the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the academic component of the program into relevant work experience. During the co-op, students will be considered employees who are actively engaged in productive work for the duration of the co-op session. The co-op experience will provide students with coaching and mentoring, work-site monitoring and employer evaluations. This workplace exposure will benefit the students by providing a deeper real-time insight to the current trends in the industry, allowing them to explore their different career opportunities, and observe professionals in practical work situations. Students will continue to strengthen their experience by acquiring situation-specific skills and identifying areas that may need to be developed further. The institution will monitor both the student and the employer throughout the co-op session to ensure that the experience is beneficial to all stakeholders. At the conclusion of the co-op, a written evaluation of the student’s performance will be completed.
