CDI College is pleased to celebrate another achievement from our Surrey Practical Nursing graduates. In 2026, CDI College Surrey achieved a 90.48% pass rate on the Regulatory Exam – Practical Nurse (REx-PN).
The result marks another encouraging milestone for graduates as they move from Practical Nursing education toward professional practice as Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in British Columbia.
We congratulate our graduates on their hard work, commitment, and preparation as they reach this important stage in their nursing careers.
CDI College Surrey Continues Strong REx-PN Performance
The 90.48% REx-PN pass rate in 2026 continues a history of strong exam results for Practical Nursing graduates at CDI College Surrey.
In 2023, the Surrey campus achieved a 92.31% REx-PN pass rate, an achievement previously celebrated by CDI College. Exam outcomes can vary between cohorts. However, the latest result provides another positive snapshot of CDI College Surrey graduates reaching an important stage on the path toward becoming LPNs in BC.
Behind that pass rate are Practical Nursing graduates putting their nursing knowledge, clinical judgment, and preparation into practice on an entry-to-practice regulatory exam.
Why the REx-PN Is an Important Milestone
The REx-PN is part of the registration process for new BC Practical Nursing graduates seeking to practise as LPNs. According to the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), new graduates of BC Practical Nursing programs who want to practise in the province must take the exam.
The REx-PN uses computer-adaptive testing (CAT) and assesses the entry-level nursing knowledge, skills, and judgment needed to provide safe care. Passing the exam is therefore an important milestone as graduates continue through BCCNM's registration process toward LPN practice.
Preparing Practical Nursing Students for the REx-PN
At CDI College Surrey, REx-PN preparation is part of a broader 75-week Practical Nursing diploma program combining nursing theory, laboratory and simulation learning, and practice education. The current program outline totals 1,965 hours and identifies supporting students to pass the REx-PN and preparing them for professional careers as LPNs among the program's objectives.
Throughout the CDI College Practical Nursing Diploma Program, students develop knowledge and clinical judgment across areas such as:
- pharmacology and medication administration;
- nursing assessment and clinical decision-making;
- professional, ethical, and safe nursing practice;
- health promotion;
- acute and chronic health conditions; and
- client-centred nursing care.
The program's Integrated Nursing Practice courses bring theory and application together through classroom, laboratory, simulation, and other practice experiences. For example, students develop clinical decision-making and nursing assessment skills early in the program and continue building those competencies as they progress into more complex health and acute-care situations.
These skills are relevant to what candidates encounter on the REx-PN. BCCNM's official test plan organizes the exam around eight client-needs areas, including management of care, safety and infection control, health promotion and maintenance, pharmacological and parenteral therapies, reduction of risk potential, and physiological adaptation.
Students also apply their learning through multiple practice education experiences. Near the end of the program, they complete a 180-hour preceptorship, designed to give learners an opportunity to integrate and consolidate their knowledge, skills, and abilities within the realities of the workplace and become practice ready.
Together, nursing theory, clinical decision-making, simulation, practice education, and preceptorship help students build the competencies expected of entry-level practical nurses.
REx-PN Preparation Is Built Into the Program
As students approach graduation, the curriculum includes Academic Review, Flex Days, and REx-PN Prep, a dedicated 60-hour course that reviews program learning and prepares students for the regulatory exam.
The CDI College Practical Nursing Diploma Program in BC specifically identifies REx-PN preparation as part of the training.
Candidates can also use official BCCNM REx-PN preparation resources, including the Test Plan, Candidate Tutorial, Exam Preview, and Candidate Bulletin. BCCNM notes that nursing education and official exam resources can help candidates prepare for the REx-PN.
Celebrating Our Practical Nursing Graduates
Achieving a 90.48% REx-PN pass rate in 2026 represents another encouraging result for CDI College Surrey and its Practical Nursing graduates.
It also follows the Surrey campus's 92.31% REx-PN pass rate in 2023, continuing a record of strong results as graduates take an important step toward professional LPN practice.
Most importantly, these results represent the dedication of graduates who have progressed through their Practical Nursing education, hands-on learning, clinical experiences, and exam preparation.
Congratulations to CDI College Surrey's Practical Nursing graduates on their achievement and this important milestone in their nursing careers!
