IT Students Have Top Career Picks in Toronto

February 24, 2012 | Ontario

Anyone in pursuit of a career in the technology sector can start searching in Toronto, where some of the top employers in the industry are situated. Companies like Accenture, Agfa HealthCare, eHealth Ontario and Intelex Technologies are top-rated employers of 2012 in the information technology industry, according to The Globe and Mail.

Toronto has become a metropolis of national and international head offices, with many possessing progressive and forward-thinking programs. The annual Greater Toronto Area's (GTA's) Top Employers list judges each employer's operations and human-resource practices according to eight criteria: physical workplace, overall culture, benefits, vacation time, employee communications, performance management and training development.

Richard Yerema, managing editor of Canada's Top 100 Employers, observed overall trends after his research on the city's companies, including the installation of family-friendly policies, generous vacation time and an overall accommodating work culture.

Students can seek opportunities at Accenture Inc, a major custom computer program company with 4,029 employees, where an ownership culture is encouraged through a shared purchase plan. Other companies such as Agfa and Intelex grant new employees ample vacation time.

Toronto's IT companies can offer positive futures for budding technology specialists. Those looking to enter the field should consider pursuing a fundamental education in order to gain the knowledge and skills for the job. Students can enroll in training programs such as Information Systems Support Specialist at CDI College. For more information, fill out the form on the right.
