The Ontario government has confirmed that new rules for provincial student financial assistance will apply to programs starting on or after August 1, 2026.

Under the current rules, eligible students may access a greater portion of their financial assistance as grants rather than loans. Students who begin their program before August 1, 2026, may be assessed under the current framework.

For individuals considering going back to school, this change may be an important factor in their future educational plans.
