Student Success Strategies [SSS4]
Students will gain a better understanding of themselves through an exploration of their personal attributes, transferable skills and
learning styles. This course will introduce techniques for time, conflict, and stress management and develop interpersonal
communication skills. Fundamental study and motivation skills will be covered, preparing students to excel in their program of
choice. Students will also prepare a professional resume and learn how to write effective cover letters.
Artificial Intelligence Literacy [AILIT]
This foundational course provides students with essential
artificial intelligence literacy skills required for
understanding and navigating the modern AI-driven
landscape. Students will explore the fundamental
concepts of AI, machine learning, neural networks, and
generative technologies through accessible explanations
and introductory hands-on experiences. The course
covers key topics including understanding different types
of algorithms, recognizing large language model
capabilities, basic prompt engineering, data analytics
concepts, and ethical awareness necessary for
responsible AI engagement in professional and personal
contexts.
Business Computer Applications [CA-BCAPP]
This course presents an introductory look at using a Windows environment computer and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). It covers the fundamentals of organizing files and folders, drafting business documents, creating presentations, and reporting data in spreadsheets. Students will have the opportunity to integrate their new skills in office communications tools in assignments related to their program of study. This course relies heavily on practical hands-on activities that allow you to learn the concepts by practicing them on a regular basis.
Keyboarding [KBFO]
This course gives the student an introduction to the fundamentals of keyboarding. This course will help the students reinforce their English language skills and develop their ability to key and compose information, develop the proper keyboarding techniques and skills, The gradual pace of this course will help the students develop both speed and accuracy while applying the proper keyboarding techniques and position. Students will also develop their proofreading techniques, and improve their word processing techniques in a windows environment. Students must achieve a speed of 50 words per minute.
Office Skills [OSKO]
This course is designed to impart the knowledge and skills
that are essential to work successfully in today's office environment. The course deals with the challenges when
working as an administrative assistant covering a wide range of topics ranging from duties, the changing
workplace, office politics, ethics, and attitude to organizing time and organizational structure.
Professional Skills [PSKO]
This course discusses skills that are hallmarks of professionalism in the workplace, including self-understanding, communication, rapport building, teamwork, and leadership. Students will start by reflecting on their personal and professional strengths and areas for growth, and then consider ways to enhance their
communication skills. In addition to examining professional communication, students will learn how to build and maintain professional relationships, collaborate effectively on teams, and demonstrate leadership. By the end of the course, students should have a strong understanding of how to act in professional settings.
Legal Accounting [LGLACC]
This course provides foundational knowledge and skills in legal accounting essential for legal professionals.
Participants will gain an understanding of basic accounting principles as they apply to the legal field,
including trust accounting, client billing, and financial record-keeping. Through practical exercises and case
studies, students will develop proficiency in maintaining accurate financial records in compliance with legal
regulations and ethical standards.
Introduction to Law [INLAW]
This introductory course provides an overview of the Canadian legal system, including its history, institutions,
and new developments. Students will explore foundational principles of Canadian law, including the
Constitution, the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and key areas such as criminal law,
administrative law, and private law.
Legal Practice Fundamentals [MB-LPFDM]
This course provides an in-depth look at the day-to-day functions and responsibilities of legal professionals.
Topics include case management, client interactions, ethical considerations, and the use of technology in legal
practice. Students gain practical insights into how to support lawyers and manage legal tasks effectively.
Legal Drafting [LGLDRF]
Legal Drafting focuses on the principles and techniques of drafting legal documents, including pleadings, motions,
contracts, and agreements. Students develop the skills to create clear and precise legal documents, supporting the needs of legal professionals and ensuring accurate legal documentation.
Litigation Procedures and Documentation [MB-LITPD]
Litigation Procedures and Documentation provides detailed knowledge of the litigation process. Legal
Administrative Assistants must understand the stages of litigation, from initial pleadings to trial preparation as well
as pre and post-trial motions. Students will learn to draft and organize litigation documents, manage deadlines,
and assist attorneys in trial preparation. Understanding litigation procedures ensures that students can support
the legal team effectively throughout the litigation process.
Family Law Procedures and Documentation [MB-FAMPD]
This course equips legal support staff with essential procedural knowledge and practical documentation skills
required in Manitoba family law practice. Students will learn to prepare, process, and organize various family law
documents including divorce applications, parenting orders, support calculations, property division forms, and
adoption paperwork. The curriculum emphasizes proper file management techniques, deadline tracking systems,
and procedural protocols specific to Provincial courts and administrative bodies. Through hands-on drafting
exercises, students will develop proficiency in completing court forms, assembling filing packages, and processing
documentation for alternative dispute resolution.
Real Estate Procedures and Documentation [MB-RESPD]
Students will learn to manage files from intake to closing for various transaction types including residential and
commercial sales, purchases, mortgages, condominiums, and leases. The curriculum covers Manitoba's land
registration system, document preparation, search procedures, and effective file management. Through
instruction and exercises, students will develop proficiency in client intake, title searches, preparing
standard documents, calculating adjustments, and implementing verification processes.
Business Law Procedures and Documentation [MB-BSSPD]
Students will develop essential legal document skills for preparing incorporation papers, partnership agreements,
and commercial contracts with proper formatting and required provisions. The course covers systematic
management of corporate records, regulatory filings, and intellectual property portfolios, emphasizing deadline
tracking systems critical for legal compliance. Students will master the organization of business litigation and ADR
files following law firm protocols. Through hands-on practice with actual legal templates and forms, legal
support professionals will gain the procedural expertise needed to efficiently assist attorneys with business clients
while maintaining professional confidentiality standards in a law office environment.
Wills and Estates Procedures and Documentation [MB-WESPD]
The course covers the preparation of wills, codicils, powers of attorney, and personal directives, as well as
applications for grants of probate and administration. Students will develop competencies in client intake
procedures, file management, document drafting, and the verification and filing of court documents. Special
attention is given to Manitoba-specific legislation, court procedures, and documentation requirements.
Through a focus on practical applications, students will gain the technical skills necessary to support lawyers in
both routine estate planning and administration matters, as well as in more complex situations including intestacies
and contentious estates.
Career & Employment Strategies [CES4]
In addition to learning career-oriented skills, students learn how to get a job in their chosen profession. Our Employment Services department will assist the graduate in resume writing, as well as preparing for job interviews. Our staff is sensitive to current job market trends and the needs of employers in each local market.
Our graduates receive guidance and training to use career tools that help job seekers build a better resume and cover letter, manage an online portfolio, hone interviewing skills, and develop a personal brand online.
Students will have the use of a computer lab which has unlimited Internet access, as well as job search resources. Facilitators will also be made available to advise on job finding resources, interview skills and techniques and to carry out mock interviews.

Legal Administrative Assistant Practicum Education [MB-LAAPE]
The Legal Administrative Assistant Practicum Education course provides hands-on practical experience in a real-world legal office setting.
Legal Administrative Assistants must apply the skills and knowledge acquired throughout
their coursework in a professional environment. Students will be given the opportunity to work under the supervision
of experienced legal professionals, gaining practical experience in document preparation, client interaction,
case management, and office procedures. By the end of this practicum, students will have developed the
confidence and competence needed to excel in their roles as Legal Administrative Assistants.
