CDI College Holiday Food Drive Brings in More Than 2,700 Items

Monday, January 7, 2019

Vancouver, BC; January 7, 2019 – CDI College students, instructors and staff collected non-perishable items for local food banks over the holidays, bringing in nearly 2,700 items across our 25 campuses.

“We are thrilled with the kindness shown by our students, staff, and faculty, as they give back to their communities,” said Andre Souza, VP of Operations at CDI College. “Our goal is changing lives with education, so we see the Holiday Food Drive as an extension of our goals as a school.”

“Learning and focusing is much more difficult without proper nutrition. The generosity of the CDI College community in helping its neighbours during the holiday season makes us very proud.”

For every item donated, CDI College is also making a monetary donation to Food Banks Canada, making a total donation of $700.

Every month, more than 860,000 Canadians turn to food banks to get access to fresh, safe, quality food, with a further four million Canadians living in a state of food insecurity.

Food banks in Canada are constantly under pressure to ensure donations are coming in to cover their client base, and people who use food banks come from all walks of life: families with children, seniors, people with disabilities, the working poor, and individuals on social assistance.

If you’re thinking of donating to your local food bank, these items are most in-demand:

  • Pasta (canned or dry) and pasta sauces
  • Canned and frozen meats and fish
  • Meat alternatives – peanut butter, soy, and assorted nuts
  • Canned goods – beans, soups, and stews
  • Dairy – fresh, canned, and powdered milk
  • Canned vegetables and fruit
  • Whole grain cereals
  • Infant foods and baby formula
  • Bathroom tissue and diapers
  • Personal hygiene products
  • Financial donations to help food banks buy fresh foods, including milk, proteins, and produce
