EDMONTON, AB - June 19, 2017 - The weather outside was grey and drizzly, but CDI College's 5th annual charity Massage-a-Thon was a bright and sunny event, raising more than $12,600 for the Edmonton Firefighters' Burn Treatment Society (EFBTS).
“I would like to congratulate the staff and students at CDI College Edmonton North for putting on a fantastic event. The organizers, Renata and Celena, along with all of those involved made the day a pleasure to be part of,” said Rob McAdam, board member of the EFBTS.
“The funds raised will go a long way toward the continued funding of the Firefighters’ Burn Unit at the University of Alberta and our annual Burn Camp for young burn survivors.”
Each year, CDI College’s Massage Therapy students participate in this daylong event at the Edmonton North campus, giving massages for a minimum donation of $10, with all proceeds going to a charitable organization chosen by the students.
Since starting in 2013, the Massage-a-Thon has raised more than $34,000 for charities across Edmonton, including the Edmonton Food Bank, Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation, the Kids Kottage Foundation, and A Safe Place Women’s Shelter.
The event also included a barbecue, dunk tank, silent auction featuring items donated by local businesses, including a 4K HDTV, a one-year supply of pizza from Boston Pizza, delicious cakes and confections, and more.
Braving the cool, damp weather to take a turn in the dunk tank was boxer Ryan Ford, fresh off his recent victory in the Universal Boxing Association (UBO) Light Heavyweight Championship.
“I’m so impressed and proud of all the hard work that goes into making Massage-a-Thon so successful,” said Renata Maione, campus director at CDI College Edmonton North. “We surpassed our goal because of the support of all staff, students, local businesses, and the community.
“Thank you to everyone who supported the Massage-a-Thon, because without you, it wouldn’t have been so successful.”
With more than $12,600 raised this year, we are already looking forward to Massage-a-Thon 2018.
