SSS4 - Student Success Strategies
This course will introduce students to skills and concepts that will help them achieve personal, academic, and career success.
MOT4 - Microsoft Outlook
This course presents the MS Outlook application interface, tools, and features. You will l earn about the fundamentals of an e-mail application, scheduling, calendars, contact lists, creating, forwarding and managing messages. This course relies heavily upon hands-on practical activities that allow you to learn concepts by practicing them on a regular basis.
MSWO4 - Microsoft Word
This course introduces the students to word processing with Microsoft Word 2013. Relying very heavily on a hands-on practical training approach, students learn by doing through skills based simulations, training, and assessments. The course starts with an overview of Microsoft Office 2013 where you will learn about the common features of the Office applications and file management fundamentals. The course then focuses on the core features of Microsoft Word where students learn proper document formatting, organization, and editing using the tools and features of the ribbon. The course will then continue with more advanced topics such as working with tables, lists, objects, templates, footnotes and endnotes, and mail merges. Finally the course will explore the collaboration features of Word 2013 that allow users to share and collaborate on documents through the use of track changes, sharing, and reviewing and the use of SkyDrive.
MSE04 - Microsoft Excel
<p>This course introduces the students to spreadsheets with Microsoft Excel 2013. Relying very heavily on a hands-on practical training approach, students learn by doing through skills based simulations, training, and assessments. The course starts with an overview of spreadsheets and how to use the common features and functions of Microsoft Excel. The course then focuses on the core features of Microsoft Excel where students learn how to enter and format data and use the various functions and formulas to manage and manipulate the data. The course will then continue with more advanced topics such as performing quantitative analysis with logical, lookup, and various mathematical and financial functions. Depicting data visually is an important feature of Excel. Students will learn how to work with charts in Excel to produce a variety of different charts based on data housed in a spreadsheet. Finally students will learn to handle large volumes of data with Datasets and tables.</p>
EBW4 - Effective Business Writing
Following the completion of this course, students will be able to: describe business communications in today’s workplace; communicate in teams using listening, nonverbal and meeting skills; plan, write and review various types of business messages; communicate effectively using memos, email, letters and instant messages; create business reports and proposals; plan, write and deliver oral presentations.
MKT4 - Marketing
Students are provided an introduction to marketing practices focusing on problem definition and solution. Topics will include marketing concepts, marketing strategies, and buyer behaviour. The product promotion, distribution, pricing and public relations model are emphasized.
BMT4 - Business Math
An introduction to the fundamental principles and concepts of business mathematics. Students will be shown how to apply these principles and concepts to solve practical business problems in regards to marketing and finance.
BESO - Business Essentials
Business Essentials provides an overview of business management today, including forms of ownership and the ways managers carry out their basic management functions in a skillful and inventive way.
AFA4 - Accounting Fundamentals I
This module is intended to provide students with a general background of the fundamentals of accounting as a means to understand the daily transaction procedures that exist in business. Students are introduced to double entry bookkeeping including debits and credits, assets, liabilities, equities, journalizing transactions, posting of accounts to ledgers and preparing a trial balance. Students are also introduced to financial statements and to adjusting and closing accounts.
SI1O - Computerized Accounting with Sage 50
Students will learn accounting procedures in a computerized environment using the General, Payables, Receivables, modules of Sage 50.
BLAO - Business Law
An introduction to Canadian business law is provided by using the case study approach that leads to a grasp of the key elements. The emphasis is on the application of the law to practical business situations.
HRE4 - Human Resources
Employees are the most valuable asset of a business. All aspects from hiring to performance appraisal are examined utilizing the case study approach.
IMISY - Introduction to Management Information Systems
Information and data are the fuel that drive businesses today. Managing, protecting, accessing and analyzing information in a timely manner is the cornerstone of a company’s decision making processes leading to intelligent business decisions. This course provides an overview of the various information systems that are essential parts of business processes in today’s global business landscape.
MNGMT - Fundamentals of Management
This course aims to build upon the student’s fundamental knowledge of business in general with a particular focus on management. Students will explore the management skills that are essential in today’s business environments. Students will explore the role of management in areas of planning, organizing, leading and controlling processes.
STWBD - Strategic Web Design
In this course students will be able to create a search engine-friendly website. Students will be introduced to the website planning process, and discover the web design tools, principles and strategies that will allow them to design create and publish a fully functional web site. Students will become familiar with web hosting principles and integrate social media effectively on their websites.
DGMKF - Digital Marketing Fundamentals
In this course students will the key concepts of digital marketing. The course will explore the importance of branding, audience reach and demographics in the marketing strategies. Students will learn how to utilize analytics and the importance of goals as part of the marketing processes.
SMMKS - Social Media Marketing Strategies
After completing this course, students will be well-versed in how to use the right social media platform(s) and how to best utilize the features offered by each platform to enable them to help corporations to reach their target audience and achieve their goals. Seven channels are examined in-depth: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Yelp, and Pinterest.
CES4 - Career and Employment Strategies
In addition to learning career-oriented skills, students at CDI College also learn how to prepare themselves for successfully acquiring a job in their chosen profession. This course will assist students in planning, preparation, and job search execution. Students will prepare personal marketing collateral and will practice a variety of interviewing techniques.
MB-BDMWE - Business and Digital Marketing Work Experience
This field placement prepares you for your transition to the workforce. The practicum will be completed in a business / marketing environment working under the supervision of experienced personnel. You will be provided with a description of duties you&rsquo;ll perform on the job. At the end of the placement, the practicum host will provide an evaluation of your performance, and you will provide the college with an evaluation of the placement.
