Dental receptionist training keeps office administration staff up-to-date on latest skills

Burnaby, BC - July 7, 2010 - Among a dental receptionist's duties, one of the most important is handling the medical billing and processing dental insurance claims. This deals with submitting dental claims to insurance companies, compiling records to charge for services rendered, calculating the amount of these services, and preparing invoices.

Dental Insurance in Canada

Dental insurance claims have to be filed in order for the insurance provider to pay for a patient's dental work. In some cases, the insurance provider must authorize procedures before they are performed. Dental receptionists often contact dental insurance companies to determine the items and amounts that will be reimbursed.

Processing a Claim

In order to process insurance claims, the dental receptionist must complete a standard dental insurance form that includes the patient's information, the date, the type of work done, and a detailed explanation of the procedures performed. They must provide proof of the work that has been done on the patient in order to be reimbursed by the insurance company. This can be done either by mail or by electronic submission, which is becoming increasingly popular. While some dental receptionists will fill out the dental insurance claims, sometimes it is the patients' responsibility to submit their own paperwork.

Dental Insurance Plans

Dental insurance plans offer different types of coverage. Most plans cover basic dental services like periodontal cleaning, examinations, extractions and root canals. More specialized plans can also cover major restorative procedures such as crowns, veneers, bridges, dentures and orthodontics.
