Toronto, ON – March 15, 2013 – In response to the demand for well-trained social services workers, CDI College has launched a Community Services Worker program in Toronto. Now students can develop fundamental skill sets and earn credentials to begin careers in the community services field in just 33 weeks.
“Community services workers are an essential part of our healthcare and social systems in Canada, and there is a growing demand for them across the country,” says Larry Heinzlmeir, CDI College’s VP of Marketing. “The Community Services Worker program provides students with the practical training they need to start in this rewarding and fulfilling career field.”
Students in the Community Services Worker program will develop the essential skills and knowledge needed to work in the social services field. They’ll learn about the role social services workers play in society and gain a perspective of the field in Canada. Along with psychology, communications and ethics, students will learn about diversity and social justice, poverty, addiction, mental health issues and working with families. Community resources, case file management, report writing, burnout and self-care are also covered.
Before they graduate, students will take part in a field placement in a community services setting, allowing them to integrate their training in the work place and gain relevant experience for their resumes. Graduates of the program will be eligible for a range of job opportunities in alcohol and drug treatment centres, family social service agencies, group homes, community mental health centres, school programs and more.
