New program to help shape the future of the nursing field
Winnipeg, MB - June 7, 2011 – The demand for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in the Canadian health care system provides current students with several exciting career options in Manitoba and across the country. In response to this demand, CDI College is set to launch the Practical Nursing diploma program at its Winnipeg campus.
“Today’s practical nursing students face a constantly changing health care landscape due to technological advancements, government regulations and the effects of nursing shortages,” says Dr. Bohdan Bilan, VP of Academics for CDI College. “We look forward to welcoming students to this new program as they pursue a challenging and rewarding career.”
The 102-week diploma program includes an intensive curriculum of academic studies and clinical practica. Students complete courses across a variety of nursing categories, including community health, mental health, maternal, and pediatric nursing. Clinical practices allow students to apply nursing knowledge and skills to a real-world environment, while under clinical supervision and mentorship. Graduates of the program will have developed the required competencies established by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM). They will also be prepared to write the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Exam (CPNRE) to practice as an LPN.
Career opportunities in hospitals, acute care settings, long-term health facilities, care homes, medical clinics, adult day cares and community health centers will allow LPNs to make a positive impact in their communities and in the Canadian health care field.
