CDI Accounting and Payroll Grads Strike CPA Gold

April 14, 2010 | Manitoba

Accounting and Payroll grads bring home top CPA awards for third year in a row

Winnipeg, MB - April 14, 2010 - On Friday, April 9, 2010 the Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) announced the award winners for the Prairie Region. The awards are given to recognize those who have achieved the highest overall marks in the payroll courses for the CPA Certificate Program in 2009.

CDI College continued its proud tradition of CPA award winners at the Winnipeg campus. This year, CDI Accounting and Payroll Administrator diploma graduates Tami Norget won the Silver and Monica Bridge won the Gold for the Prairie Region. Last year, Winnipeg grads took the Gold and Bronze awards and placed in the Nationals.

Campus Director Tahl East was delighted with the news, "Two years of Gold award winners validates the secret that Winnipeg employers have known for some time: CDI College graduates rock!"

She explained that the success of the program is a combination of industry experienced instructors, a supportive educational team and a very positive community minded learning environment.

"Success can have a thousand parents," East said, "And this is really true. All of our staff share in this success."

Part of the success is due to a very strong and dedicated instructor in the Winnipeg Accounting and Payroll program, Glenn Ankrom. He and a number of CDI College payroll students and graduates were at the luncheon when the Norget and Bridge received their awards.

"There are over 2,000 regional and 13,000 national registrations so this is really quite the achievement," Ankrom said. "Monica (Bridge) also qualified for a National medal and has won an all expense paid trip to Toronto in July where she will receive her award at the CPA National Convention."

Both graduates are employed successfully in their profession and are well on their way to building their careers.

"Our learning centre teaching method," East explained, "is focused on providing an incubator which simulates a real work environment. Students are given assignments based on work situations in their fields while they utilize resources in order to achieve results."

Students in the Accounting and Payroll Administrator diploma program are given assignments based on work situations in their field and utilize this method to develop competencies and later proficiencies in AccPac, Simply Accounting, Microsoft Excel and Word.

"It is here that they apply what they have learned in theory to a practical application," East said, noting that students not only learn these financial software applications but they also learn to continue learning.

The theory sections of the Accounting and Payroll Administrator diploma program consist of strong classroom instructor led training. There is a strong focus on excellence and knowledge of their core competencies.

"It is easy for anyone to say that our program is great, however it is terrific when an external organization such as the Canadian Payroll Association validates our hard work, our strong instructors and our college through results as wonderful as these," East said.
