Massage Therapy students raise funds in support of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation

Edmonton, AB – April 15, 2013 – Massage Therapy program students at CDI College are hosting the first-ever Massage-A-Thon in support of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation. The event takes place at the Edmonton North campus on April 19, 2013.

For a minimum $10 donation, patrons will receive a relaxing 20 minute massage from one of the campuses talented Massage Therapy students. They’ll also be able to get a bite to eat at the barbeque, purchase some tasty treats at a bake sale and participate in a silent auction. Some of the items up for bid include a barbeque dinner for eight, a 90-minute massage, gift baskets from Massage Essentials, the Massage Therapy Supply Outlet, Epicure and Spasation Salon and Spa, as well as a hockey stick autographed by the current Edmonton Oil Kings team.

All proceeds raised by the event will go directly to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation to help fund specialized equipment, specialty medical education, research and specialize programs to improve patient and family outcomes at the Stollery Children’s Hospital.

Massage Therapy students at CDI College have a history of community involvement. In March 2013, students donated their time and skills to Bust-a-Move for Breast Health. In the past, they also raised funds for a number of charitable organizations in the city, including The Mustard Seed, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Alberta Cancer Foundation. They anticipate a great turn out for the Massage-A-Thon and hope the event really makes an impact on the public.

“The students really are passionate about helping others – not just by the funds raised through our weekly public massage clinic, but from volunteering at many charity events throughout the year,” says Celena Voshall, a Massage Therapy instructor at CDI College. “They are so devoted that they decided to put on their own event. We hope to raise as much money as we can for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and raise awareness about having this amazing hospital in our city.”
