By 2015, Vancouver expects to gain 6,000 jobs as a result of the adoption of cloud-based computing technology, according to the Vancouver Sun. The cloud will support the development of 14 million jobs worldwide - 70,000 of which will be rooted in Canada, as Microsoft's International Data Corporation (IDC) research indicates.

"The cloud is going to have a huge impact on job creation," Microsoft's Worldwide Enterprise and Partner Group vice president Susan Hauser stated. "It's a transformative technology that will drive down costs, spur innovation and open up new jobs and skillsets across the globe."

Providing a cost-effective alternative for businesses' tech departments, cloud computing has allowed company leaders to redirect their finances to product and business innovation instead. While the IDC reported that as a whole, the world spent about $28 billion on cloud services last year, it also reported that these businesses generated an additional $400 billion in revenue and 1.5 million new jobs in 2011.

"The cloud is the No. 1 topic among CIOs from around the world," Hauser said. "They want to know how they can use it to fuel growth. And they want to be sure they have the right people and skills in place to make it happen."
