T-shirts, cupcakes and bracelets sold to raise money for the Red Cross

Winnipeg, MB – May 3, 2011 – On Friday, April 8, 2011, CDI College’s staff and students volunteered their time to support a unique, high-tech fundraising event for the Japanese earthquake and tsunami relief effort. The event raised more than $3,000, with all proceeds donated to the Red Cross.

The T-shirts sold featured a QR code (mobile barcode) that, when scanned with a Smartphone, takes the user directly to the Red Cross’s mobile donation page. CDI also sold bracelets and baked hundreds of cupcakes to support this effort. In total, 134 T-shirts, 90 bracelets and 150 cupcakes were sold to staff, students and the general public.

"CDI College is the type of school that gets involved wherever we can,” explained Tahl East, Campus Director at CDI College’s Winnipeg campus. “It’s one of those times when it’s impossible not to get involved. Our school is very socially aware and we feel globally responsible.”

Staff and students also recorded messages of hope for those now trying to rebuild in Northeastern Japan. You can view the video at www.youtube.com/CDICareerCollege.
