CDI Grad Turns to Education to Help Others

August 11, 2009 | British Columbia

Abbotsford, BC - August 11, 2009 - Kris Armstrong remembers the day his life changed. Tired of working 10 hour shifts driving a Zamboni, never seeing his children, Kris decided to turn his life around.

"One day on the way home after a bad day at work, I called my wife and said 'I just quit my job and I don't know what I'm going to do now,'" Armstrong recalls. "All the way home I thought "what am I going to do?'"

Armstrong realized that returning to school for career training was the logical solution to his dilemma. Despite self doubt about whether he could complete a program at the post-secondary level, he immediately started to research local schools. After learning about CDI College, the Business Administration program stood out from the rest - and it was offered at a campus close to Kris' home.

Encouraged by these positive points, he filled out an online application. Within minutes he received a response from an Admissions Representative with more information about the programs at the school.

"I called her back the next day to set up an appointment but I didn't have very high hopes about how well I would do," he recalls. "During high school, I wasn't a super student so I didn't know how this would go." But then something changed.

As Armstrong aced his admissions exam, he realized he was capable of completing the program at CDI. He attributes part of his success in the program to the support he received from his family and the college.

After successfully completing the Business Administration program at CDI College, Kris was offered a position at an affiliate college as an Admissions Representative.

"Being a former student helps enormously as an Admissions Representative," he says. "The thing I love the most about what I do is the fact that I can connect emotionally with all the students. I'm helping change their lives like someone helped me changed mine. It touches my heart to know that I'm a factor in this whole process."
