Medical office assistants play an important part in a professional medical office. CDI College's Medical Office Assistant Certificate program teaches you the knowledge and skills you need to thrive in this exciting career.

To be accepted into this program, students must have at least one year of administrative or clerical work experience, as well as a typing speed of a least 40 words per minute and proficiency in Microsoft Word. The program teaches a combination of administrative skills like communication skills, records management, record keeping, and word processing. The program also covers medical skills like anatomy, terminology, and transcription.

Students gain hands-on experience at a mandatory four-week practicum placement at a medical office job site. CDI College offers a Career and Employment Strategies module, which teaches essential job search and interview skills.

This program is 18 weeks in length.

    • This course provides an introduction to the human body and its functions. The basic anatomical structure of each body system is studied, along with the most common pathological conditions, fundamental clinical procedures and abbreviations relating to each of the body systems.
  • MM2E Medical Machine Transcription 100

    • This course introduces students to Medical transcription and document preparation in health care. Students will learn various types of reports utilized in medical facilities and report templates will be introduced.
  • MPAE Medical Office Practice and Assisting 100

    • This course introduces the student to the standard administrative functions in a typical medical office, along with the non-invasive elements of assisting with patient examinations ¾ preparing and positioning patients, taking initial history, and checking vital signs. In addition to learning manual methods of health care billing, students are also exposed to a medical office management software package that meets the provincial Ministry of Health requirements.
