Medical office administrators work in fast-paced medical office jobs in environments like hospitals, clinics and doctors' offices. CDI College's Medical Office Administrator program teaches a balance of office procedures and technology like Microsoft Word and Excel programs, and medical fundamentals like medical terminology, anatomy and medical transcription. Students gain real-world experience through a mandatory practicum.
Students continue to be supported after graduation through our Career and Employment Services department, which assist with job search and interviewing skills, employer expectations, and resume preparation.

- This course covers the study of the shape, structure and functions of the human body. An introduction to medical terms and word parts is also introduced to allow students to build their medical terminology vocabulary. Topics covered include Skeletal system, Muscular system, Blood and Lymphatic systems, Cardiovascular, Digestive, Respiratory, Integumentary, Special Senses, Male and Female Reproduction, Endocrine and Nervous system.

- This course looks at the planning, preparation, execution, and follow-up stages of an interview. Students will learn about how people find jobs, employment expectations, transferable skills, effective telemarketing, job search management and many other helpful, career strategy topics.

- The first component of this course is designed to introduce students to basic computer literacy through familiarization with the components that make up a computer. Students will also look at the Windows operating system to learn how to manage a computer on a regular basis. The second component of this course will teach the basic skills required to work with a variety of business documents including the following MS Office products: Word, Excel and PowerPoint. The third and final component is designed to introduce students to considerations for living online. Students will look at what the Internet is and how email has made a huge impact on communicating with others, as well as look at how to find information on the Internet and avoid risk to personal security while online.

- In this course students will learn introductory word processing concepts using Microsoft Word to process medical documents including letters, memos and envelopes. Emphasis will be on accuracy, grammar, spelling and maintaining confidentiality of patient records. The course will also include an introduction to the medical field and possible employment prospects.

- This course will teach students how to perform all tasks associated with office bookkeeping and payroll. This will include month-end, year-end and source deduction remittance. The course also covers bank reconciliation and ledger balancing for year-end functions.

- In this course students will obtain knowledge in nutrition including the Canada’s Food Guide, key elements, vitamins, minerals, and proper nutritional eating, An introduction to psychology and human behaviour including defense mechanisms, stress and personality disorders is also included. Special patients and the management of these patients will be stressed so the student can differentiate between disorders that people may be suffering from. Finally, the course includes an introduction to prescriptions, drugs and their uses, classifications, Narcotics, drug effects and their usage in health care.

- This course introduces students to medical software packages used in offices and facilities. This includes patient registration, booking appointments, patient billing, reconciliation, medical records and prescription preparation. This will also include all the reports required by an office to account for all aspects of bookkeeping in a computerized system. Time is allocated at the end of this course for the Final Comprehensive Practical and Theory Examinations.

In addition, you will learn how to present tabular data in a variety of different chart formats. This course relies heavily on hands-on practical activities that allow you to learn the concepts by practicing them on a regular basis.
