Banking and Financial Services

The Banking and Financial Services program has been built from the ground up with industry collaboration at its core, ensuring that the content throughout is not only relevant to the industry but also directly addresses the needs of its employers.

To develop a thorough understanding of the banking and financial industries, you’ll explore banking fundamentals, foreign exchange, consumer & mortgage credit, and investments. Alongside a working knowledge of the field, you’ll also build a solid foundation of long-term employable skills that can greatly benefit your career prospects.

The technical and management skills offered in this program can be applied not only to banking establishments and credit companies, they can also be transferred into any position that requires communication skills and interaction with clients and customers.

Program Courses

CESO - Career and Employment Strategies

In addition to learning career-oriented skills, students learn how to get a job in their chosen profession. Our Employment Services department will assist the graduate in resume writing, as well as preparing for job interviews. Our staff is sensitive to current job market trends and the needs of employers in each local market. Our graduates receive guidance and training to use career tools that help job seekers build a better resume and cover letter, manage an online portfolio, hone interviewing skills, and develop a personal brand online.

PSKO - Professional Skills
This course is designed to equip students with interpersonal skills identified by employers as essential for success in the professional world. Using a variety of instructional methods including case studies, group exercises, and discussion, students learn and practice key communication skills.
INFO - Insurance Fundamentals
This course introduces the student to common types of insurance offered by banks and financial institution. The focus is on personal insurance, with emphasis on home, automobile and life insurance as well as health and disability insurance, and travel insurance. Insurance for investments such as mortgage insurance is also covered. The procedures and forms for arranging and selling each type of insurance to clients are discussed.
MUFO - Mutual Funds
This course focuses on the knowledge and skills required to be a mutual fund salesperson. Students study the economic and investment framework in which the mutual fund industry operates in Canada and the activities and processes used to develop a mutual fund solution for clients. Successful completion of this course provides graduates with the opportunity to register to sell mutual funds.
INVO - Investments
Designed to build knowledge and understanding of investments handled in branches of financial institutions and how to sell or suggest them to customers.
IPEO - Investor-Client Professionalism and Ethics
Although customer service and sales are stressed throughout the program, this course analyzes - in depth - the service given in several industries and emphasizes the need for first-class service at all times.
CMCO - Consumer and Mortgage Credit
This course is designed to foster a complete understanding of all aspects of consumer credit and mortgage credit - from taking an application to handling overindebtedness.
FORO - Foreign Exchange
This course covers all procedures required to process any foreign exchange transactions a customer service representative will be expected to handle.
BNK2 - Banking Fundamentals 2
This course is designed to give more practical experience in dealing with basic transactions and also to make students aware of security precautions common to all financial institutions.
BNK1 - Banking Fundamentals 1
This course gives a thorough knowledge of the basic personal bank accounts, how to process daily transactions, and an understanding of how to offer appropriate accounts to meet a customer's needs.
MSE4 - Microsoft Excel
Relying heavily on a hands-on practical training approach, students learn by doing through skills based simulations, training and assessments in Microsoft Excel. The course starts with an overview of spreadsheets and how to use the common features and functions of Microsoft Excel. The course then focuses on the core features of Microsoft Excel where students learn how to enter and format data and use the various functions and formulas to manage and manipulate data. The course continues with more advanced topics such as performing quantitative analysis with logical, lookup and various mathematical and financial functions. Depicting data visually is an important feature of Excel. Students will learn how to work with charts in Excel to produce a variety of different charts based on data housed in a spreadsheet. Finally students will learn to handle large volumes of data with datasets and tables.
MSW4 - Microsoft Word
This course introduces the students to word processing with Microsoft Word. Relying heavily on a hands-on practical training approach, students learn by doing through skills based simulations, training and assessments. Learners will focus on the core features of Microsoft Word such as proper document formatting, organization and editing using the tools and features of the ribbon. The course will then continue with more advanced topics such as working with tables, lists, objects, templates footnotes and endnotes and mail merges. Students will explore the collaboration features that allow users to share and collaborate on documents through the use of track changes, sharing and reviewing.
FCMO - Fundamentals of Computers
This course presents an introductory look at Windows 7 and its interface, tools, and features. You will learn about the fundamentals of navigating and personalizing the interface, organizing files and folders, using media devices, and searching for information. This course relies heavily on practical hands-on activities that allow you to learn the concepts by practicing them on a regular basis.
SSSO - Student Success Strategies

Students will gain a better understanding of themselves through an exploration of their personal attributes, transferable skills and learning styles. This course will introduce techniques for time, conflict, and stress management and develop interpersonal communication skills. Fundamental study and motivation skills will be covered, preparing students to excel in their program of choice. Students will also prepare a professional resume and learn how to write effective cover letters.
