Surrey, BC – November 20, 2012 – In response to the demand for qualified and compassionate healthcare professionals around British Columbia, CDI College is introducing the Health Care Assistant Advanced Practice program at its campus in Surrey.

“Health care assistants are an essential part of our healthcare system,” says Larry Heinzlmeir, CDI College’s VP of Marketing. “The Health Care Assistant Advanced Practice program will provide students with the fundamental skills and knowledge they need to work as a health care assistant, as well as cover advanced topics that will prepare for expanded roles in the field.”

Students in the 44-week Health Care Assistant Advanced Practice program will learn to respond to the emotional, psychological and physical needs of their clients and contribute to their quality of life. Through hands-on training, they’ll learn to care for and assist clients with a range of health conditions and cognitive and mental challenges. They’ll also develop the advanced knowledge of acute care, palliative care, developmental disabilities, mental health conditions and more. Along with behavior management, the basic principles of special education in schools and recreational program planning are also covered.

In addition, students will also add a number of certifications to their resumes including certificates for standard first aid, CPR “C”, WHMIS and Food Safe Level 1. They’ll also gain hands-on experience working alongside professionals in the field during a series of practicum placements.

Graduates will be able to apply for positions in a range of healthcare settings including long-term care facilities, hospitals, home care, hospices, day programs, special needs classrooms, mental health facilities and more.
