Students learn to design, plan and stage wide range of events through hands-on training

Surrey, BC – November 6, 2012 – CDI College is set to roll out its Event Planner program in Surrey. In 46 weeks, students will learn to channel their knack for organizing and attention to detail toward a career in event planning.

“With the province’s capacity to host large events in a growing number of cities like Surrey, there will be a need for professionals to plan and stage these events,” says Larry Heinzlmeir, VP of Marketing for CDI College. “The Event Planner program will prepare students to work on a wide range of events, from weddings and corporate parties to exhibitions and festivals.”

From theme and décor to catering and entertainment, event planners must be able to focus on every little detail to ensure special events go off without a hitch. The Event Planner program teaches students to design, plan and stage a range of events, from weddings and black-tie galas to corporate events and trade shows. They’ll learn to work with themes, manage live entertainment and arrange catering. Along with business communications, students learn to write proposals and attract sponsorships for an event. Bookkeeping, financial accounting, risk management and HR management principles are covered as well.

A number of event planning projects during the program will allow students to use their skills and knowledge to stage actual events, individually and as members of a team. Students in the Event Planner program also receive a student membership with the local chapter of the International Special Events Society of Canada (ISES).
