Child & Youth Services Worker Program Now Available in Ajax and Scarborough

October 15, 2014 | Ontario

October 14, 2014 – This fall, CDI College will be introducing the Child & Youth Services Worker program to the Ajax and Scarborough campuses in Ontario.

Child and youth services workers assist at-risk youth with issues starting from family, education, addiction, mental illness, abuse, and more. Graduates in the program will specialize in assistance for children and youth, providing them with counselling and guidance to help them cope with and overcome problems they may be facing.

Courses in the program will teach students how to facilitate effective advocacy, examine growing inequalities surrounding youth, and analyze myths and stereotypes. Students will acquire a working knowledge of psychological concepts and learn how to apply them to the mental, emotional, and social development of the children they work with. Social services professionals face a wide spectrum of demographics and situations on a daily basis. At the end of the program, students are required to complete a field placement where they will utilize the skills and strategies they have learned in the classroom and apply them to the real world. Not only is the work they do extremely challenging, it’s also one of the most rewarding.
