Program expansion comes as community service field continues to grow in Ontario

Ajax, ON – May 15, 2012 – CDI College is now offering the Addictions and Community Services Worker program at its Ajax campus in Ontario. At 52 weeks in length, the program offers students in Ajax the opportunity to receive community service credentials in just one year.

“Community and social service work is an ideal career path for anyone who wants to make a difference in their community,” says Larry Heinzlmeir, Vice-President of Marketing at CDI College. “The Addictions and Community Services Worker program at CDI College provides the comprehensive education that will prepare students to start rewarding and fulfilling careers helping people who need it.”

The Addictions and Community Services Worker program teaches students how to understand the complex issues surrounding substance abuse in our society. They’ll work with sub-populations more prone to addiction, as well as youth and families. Through courses like interviewing techniques and group facilitation, students will gain a number of tools to help them in their future career.

According to the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities website, employment prospects for community and social service workers in Ontario are positive. Most opportunities will be found primarily in non-institutional health services such as community mental health centres, addictions clinics and group homes. Graduates of the program may also discover opportunities in family social service agencies, correctional facilities and homes for those living with physical or developmental challenges.
