British Columbia Connecting Tech Workers to Top Companies

March 22, 2013 | British Columbia

A new system of vouchers will help technology companies in British Columbia find new workers to fill jobs in research and development, The Vancouver Sun reports. The vouchers will go toward financing a program with a goal of advancing the region's technology industry.

The province is expected to invest $7 million in the program, which aims to give small and medium-sized businesses funds to hire new employees. Technology is one of the eight key sectors identified as important by Canadian government officials, many of whom cite the importance of technology in supporting other products and services. The added funds are set to expand the industry by developing new talent and making those workers accessible to a variety of businesses.

"The principle behind [the vouchers] is to connect the best and brightest in our postsecondary institutions who are pursuing their...studies to businesses that can utilize their expertise in resolving real life challenges in the business that will allow them to be more competitive,"  Pat Bell, Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation, told the news source.

With more professionals joining the ranks of the tech workforce, businesses in the province will be pushed to produce innovative new products and services and continue to compete globally. Not only can this improve the quality of local companies, but it will also increase the number of jobs available for all workers.

Tech workers needed to fill jobs
The provincial government estimates that there will be more than 100,000 high-tech jobs opening up in B.C. by 2014, and qualified workers are needed to meet that demand. Investing million of government dollars in the sector only reinforces the belief that careers in technology will become increasingly important and prevalent in the area, giving professionals with a background in the field an advantage over other prospective workers.

Students who are interesting in learning about database administrator training or networking training could benefit from the program. These individuals may be considering furthering their education in the growing technology field, especially as tech and IT knowledge becomes more important to success.

With the development of new technologies being so crucial to the future of the region, students taking courses at a local institution will likely see a number of opportunities to jumpstart their careers. Those who want to strengthen their skills in technology before seeking employment can enroll in database administrator courses at CDI College.
