The Hospitality Operations program at CDI College introduces students to
several areas of the hotel and food services industry. Each course is
designed to introduce students to different aspects of the hospitality
field such as housekeeping management, food and beverage services, hotel
security and much more.
The Hospitality Operations diploma consists of any eight hospitality
modules, plus the Student Success Strategies, Career and Employment
Strategies and Practicum modules. The eight hospitality modules can be
counted towards an American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) diploma as well.
Graduates have found work locally and abroad in restaurants and hotels
as managers, supervisors and other key hospitality management positions.
Students also receive certification in BC Foodsafe and Serving It
Note: Students who wish to complete the full American Hotel &
Lodging Association (AHLA) diploma can upgrade their training with the Hospitality Management program at CDI College.

ITC4 - Introduction to Computers
This course is a broad-based introduction to using a personal computer. It teaches the fundamentals of an operating system and the most popular application software including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. You will also learn about the Internet, Web browsers, electronic mail and antivirus software. The course is based on the Windows 7 operating system, Microsoft office 2013 and a variety of popular software programs for the Internet-related and security-related applications
SSS4 - Student Success Strategies
This course will introduce students to skills and concepts that will help them achieve personal, academic, and career success.
CES4 - Career and Employment Strategies
In business, as in other interpersonal contact, the impression formed in the first 10 to 15 seconds is crucial to the success of the relationship. The importance of the customer and of customer relations to business success is examined through case studies, role-playing, take-home assignments and discussion. Students will learn relevant theories of human behaviour and how they may be applied to resolve conflicts and improve customer relations.
HSP198 - Practicum
This module is for course credits but has no grade. Students will be placed in actual work places related to their field of study and will be expected to act as a regular employee in order to gain the valuable real-world experience that so many employers seek. Students are encouraged to find their own work experience placement; however, once placed, continuation in that placement is mandatory.
B2000A - Hospitality Today
This course is a comprehensive overview of all aspects of hospitality management.
B2080A - Hospitality Sales & Marketing
Students will be introduced to proven marketing strategies and examine how these strategies are successfully implemented in marketing the hospitality services of hotels, motels and resorts.
B2070A - Food & Beverage Services
Students will be introduced to all aspects of food and beverage operations including planning, management, efficiencies and delivery of services of dining, banquet, catering, club and room service operations.
B2060A - Basic Accounting for the Hospitality Industry
Students will be introduced to basic fundamental accounting issues and procedures required in hotels, restaurants, and clubs. Students will learn the responsibility of a hospitality property’s accounting department, advantages and drawbacks of various types of income statements, and the role of inventory in calculating profit.
B2050A - Hospitality Supervision
Students will learn the role of the supervisor in lodging and food service operations, and will learn supervisory skills and techniques. Included are specific techniques for staff communication, increasing productivity and controlling labour costs.
B2030A - Hospitality Computer Systems
Students will become familiar with the specialized computer applications used in the hospitality industry with emphasis on reservations systems, property management systems, and food and beverage sector systems.
B2020A - Front Office Management
Students will gain the knowledge required to organize, perform and evaluate front office functions that are critical to the success of the hotel. Training will include the importance of guest service, along with many technical aspects of front office management.
B2010A - Housekeeping Management
This course is a comprehensive overview of all aspects of housekeeping management including quality maintenance, staffing, planning and technical considerations.
