Computerized Accounting & Bookkeeping

The Computerized Accounting & Bookkeeping online certificate program focuses on providing you with a solid foundation in accounting and bookkeeping theory and practice. In addition, this program provides extensive practice using QuickBooks and Sage 50, accounting software used by small to medium size businesses. Accounting principles and practices are based on what is currently acceptable in Canada.

Upon successful completion of this program, you will be able to:
  • Define the role of accounting in the business environment
  • Use standard accounting methods and tools to record business transactions
  • Use general journal and special journals
  • Perform accounting for receivables
  • Set up payroll and add employees
  • Manage banking, credit cards, and tax scenarios
  • Set up inventory, vendors, and customers
  • Set up a computerized accounting system for a company using Sage 50 Accounting
  • Record basic transactions including vendor purchases and payments, account and cash sales, receipts and payments, and credit card receipts and payments  

Program Courses

B1068-OL - Computerized Accounting III with QuickBooks
In this course you will build upon your knowledge and skills in computerized accounting systems, learning QuickBooks, an easy-to-use and powerful accounting application. Students will learn to set up a new QuickBooks company and manage customer accounts, to review and consolidate understanding of Excel and Word by exporting QuickBooks data into these programs.
CAB4-OL - Computerized Accounting II with Sage 50
This course will build on what was learned in Computerized Accounting I with Sage 50. Level I Students will learn how to set up payroll and Inventory, record payroll and inventory, set up budgets, and reconcile accounts by working with a variety of business simulations.
CAA4-OL - Computerized Accounting I with Sage 50 Level 1
This course provides a practical introduction to Sage 50 Accounting. Students learn how to set up a computerized accounting environment and record transactions in the General, Payable, and Receivable ledgers by working with a variety of business simulations.
AFC4-OL - Bookkeeping and Financial Accounting
This course is an introduction to the fundamental principles and practices of accounting as a device for reporting business activity. It provides the student with an understanding of the underlying theory and principles of accounting. The construction of financial statements as they evolve from business transactions and records is emphasized. This course also includes the following topics, merchandising sales, inventories and cost of sales, accounting information systems, receivables and payroll.
BMT4-OL - Business Math
This course is an introduction to the use of mathematics in business with an emphasis on finance, accounting and investment. It begins with an overview of the fundamentals of mathematics and algebra and then moves on to typical business applications.
