CDI College grad transitions to new career path with Accounting and Payroll Administrator diploma
Richmond, BC – May 16, 2012 – Whether they’re looking for opportunities to grow or simply exploring new directions, many people go back to college in order to change careers. For recent CDI College graduate Mae Tengco, enrolling in a career training program was the most effective route to a new career.
Mae discusses the reasons behind her career switch on CDI College’s YouTube channel. After 12 years as an animal health technician, she reached a plateau in her job. While she loved working with animals, Mae realized that career growth and advancement in the veterinary field would only come after at least seven more years of education. Turning to another passion, Mae chose to enroll in the Accounting and Payroll Administrator program at CDI College’s Richmond campus.
“At the beginning, I was looking for something with more stability,” she says. “I wanted something that was in demand and was something I enjoyed as well.”
Mae credits her knack for numbers and her instructors’ hands-on training methods for helping her succeed in the program. For her and many other career changers, practical application helps with new skill development and provides essential experience that makes the transition to a new career easier.
“You won’t know how to utilize those skills without hands-on training,” she adds. “If it’s just theory and just conventional learning without hands-on, it can get boring and monotonous.”
