Add the holiday season with Christmas and New Years into the mix, and it's even easier to gain that unwanted weight. In fact, the average person gains one pound per year. Indoor Winter Exercise Ideas  

Workout DVDs: Workout DVDs are an inexpensive and fun way to stay in shape.  From circuit training and martial arts to step aerobics, there's a winter workout for everyone.

Resistance Training with Dumbbells: Push-ups, squats, lunges, bicep curls, triceps dips, and military presses are a great way to battle the bulge and tone muscles while preventing the onset of osteoporosis and other diseases. 

Yoga and Pilates: Both of these workouts are great for alleviating stress and tension, while toning and conditioning.  Yoga and Pilates also improve blood circulation and oxygen flow, make them great winter exercise options.

Running, jogging, or walking: These activities will get you in great shape quickly, and can easily be done in winter weather - you just need to bundle up!

Hiking: Hit the trails this winter to get some exercise and enjoy Canada's beautiful scenery. Be sure to check weather conditions before heading out, and pack all the necessary gear like snacks, water, extra layers and an emergency hiking kit that contains first aid supplies.

Ice-skating/Ice Hockey: Many cities have local ice rinks both inside and outdoors. Grab your friends for an exciting day on the ice. Challenge them and whoever wins has to treat the other team to hot cocoa.

Skiing & Snowboarding: If you're close to a mountain range, there's no better way to keep up your winter fitness than to hit the slopes! Both skiing and snowboarding are great cardiovascular exercises that tone as well.
