Passion Makes Powerful Healthcare Workers

Friday, November 30, 2012

Parents, teachers, guidance counselors and coaches often give the same words of wisdom to students: Follow your passion. The statement is simple, yet occasionally difficult to follow for students who are unsure of what exactly that passion may be. Some individuals may identify their love for caring after family members as what motivates them each day, while others might be fascinated by the world of science and find the human body inspiring. Ultimately, any daily experience that makes a person happy and fulfilled could be the start to their career path, even if it does not jump out at them right away. Once students identify that one calling, they can take these steps to make sure they foster their passion and begin their path toward a happy and professional future.

Gain Control
When people love what they do, they often find a strong sense of control in their careers. When students are thrilled by the idea of their blossoming healthcare careers, the last thing they would do is take on a position that steers them away from their ultimate goal. Even if the opportunity is greater than what they are currently undertaking, it still is not bringing them closer to their dream position, and by realizing this, students can stay on track.

"Giving people more control over what they do and how they do it increases their happiness, engagement and sense of fulfillment," Cal Newport, a computer science professor and blogger at Study Hacks, told The Globe and Mail.

Hone Your Craft
Though finding a passion is exhilarating, students must also identify which skills are necessary to succeed in this type of field. By targeting these qualities, students will not run the risk of feeling lost in a broad professional sector such as healthcare, and can narrow down their options to areas like medical office administration or practical nursing. When students focus more attention on making themselves better workers, they effortlessly demonstrate to recruiters and supervisors that they are worthy employees.

Practice Makes Perfect
Any successful professional, whether an athlete, musician, doctor or teacher, will advise that students can never practice, study or learn enough about their craft. Fortunately, when students are following a field that they care deeply about, it is much easier to devote a great deal of time and effort because it is something that they want to do.

Those who are thrilled about starting healthcare careers can enroll in the Practical Nursing program at CDI College. To learn more information, fill out the form on the right.
