Vancouver, BC – June 27, 2012 – With trends indicating that needs for social services are increasing, CDI College has developed three new programs to prepare students for careers in the field. Each program, including specializations for recovery and youth populations, is offered at CDI College in Burnaby, Vancouver, Surrey, and Victoria, and can be completed in less than a year.

“As the need for social services grows, so do the number of jobs and the opportunities to make a difference in our communities,” says Larry Heinzlmeir, VP of Marketing at CDI College. “That’s why CDI College is proud to introduce the Social Services Worker Foundations, Social Services Worker Recovery Specialist, and Social Services Worker Youth Specialist programs.”

Recent surveys from Service Canada indicate that increases in family instability, stress, and community awareness of social programs are intensifying the demand for social services. With growing employment opportunities, CDI College hopes to prepare graduates for work in settings such as youth and family agencies, alcohol and drug abuse programs, mental health centres and school programs.

Social Services Worker Foundations, a 29-week program, and the Social Services Worker Recovery Specialist and Social Services Worker Youth Specialist programs, both 44-weeks, give students an overview of contemporary issues in the field with specific training in the needs of their chosen specialty. All the programs combine industry-specific knowledge with broader employment skills to help enhance graduates’ careers, such as resume development and on-the-job communication. Students also exercise their skills in a required practicum and graduate with in-the-field experience.
