Abbotsford campus raises hundreds of dollars through student initiatives

Abbotsford, BC - September 22, 2009 - The Abbotsford campus of CDI College will join the fight against Autism on September 26, 2009. Taking part in the Walk Now for Autism event at Nat Bailey Stadium, staff and students will join thousands of British Columbians in raising awareness about the disorder.

"This is a cause that hits close to home for me, as my 13 year old son has autism," says Kim French, CDI Abbotsford Campus Coordinator. "The students have loved participating in our fundraising efforts, which means a lot."

 Despite struggling to pay for tuition and support families of their own, the students at the Abbotsford CDI campus have been holding fundraising events for the past several months. From "Wear-Your-Jeans-to School" day to pop can drives, staff and students have raised over $200 to date.

With 1 in 50 people diagnosed with autism, the disorder is one that affects many across our province, and around the world. Thanks to efforts like CDI College's, the Lower Mainland branch of Autism Speaks has raised over $100,000 to put towards research, public awareness campaigns and aid to families who are affected by the disorder.
