Fore! Tips for Planning a Corporate Golf Tournament

Planning a perfect corporate event takes months of planning

Richmond, BC - May 12, 2010 - It's finally that time of year again - the lush lawns are being manicured and the quick demise of hockey teams during the NHL playoffs means the hockey sticks are being replaced with golf clubs and getting polished with gleeful enthusiasm. For event planners though, golf season has been in their minds and calendars for months, as the time consuming job of planning a corporate golf tournament often starts nine to 12 months ahead of time.

To assist with the daunting task of planning a golf tournament, here are a few points to remember:

  • Choose the golf course wisely as the facility must also suit the needs of other apres activities such as a dinner or awards ceremony. Ensure the staff is accommodating and understands the different components of the tournament to a "tee".

  • Securing golf tournament sponsors and ordering course signage should be done early in the planning stages as both can take some time to complete.

  • Look into purchasing or designing a database to help with the registration process - this can track the players, pair the teams, and ensure an easier and more efficient flow to the day.

  • Don't forget to pack the gift bags with lots of sunscreen! A burnt farmer's tan can make for some good laughs on the course, but isn't the most desirable gift a player can take back to the office!
