Cold and flu season is upon us - follow these tips to stay healthy

Winnipeg, MB - December 2, 2010 - As the weather turns colder and we stay indoors, people often catch colds. No one wants to get sick. While there is no way to cure the common cold or flu, there are some helpful hints to staying healthy.

Cold and Flu Prevention

  1. Eat foods that fight viruses. A daily dose of vitamins and minerals, garlic for its immune building properties, vitamin C and D, cheese and other dairy products including yogurt which have good bacteria to ward off bad germs.

  2. Keep the germs away. The most important thing you can do to keep from getting sick is to wash your hands.

  3. Maintain a healthy lifestyle. Healthy bodies have an easier time fighting off infection. A good sleep, well-balanced diet, regular exercise, reducing stress and cutting back on unhealthy habits will boost your immune system.

Cold Remedies

For most of us getting sick is a part of life. If you do catch a cold or the flu, the following advice still holds true -- drink lots of fluids and get plenty of rest. Stay home so you don't infect others. If you are feeling truly awful, your symptoms worsen or last a long time it is always wise to contact a physician.
