Dental Assisting students to work side-by-side with UBC Faculty of Dentistry and Salvation Army

Burnaby, BC – September 10, 2013 – CDI College, in coordination with the UBC Faculty of Dentistry and the Salvation Army, is hosting Open Wide Community Clinic Day on September 14, 2013.

Student and faculty volunteers from CDI College’s Dental Assisting program will lend support to dentists and dental hygienists from UBC to provide a day of free oral healthcare for clients of the Salvation Army. Services will include basic pain relief, restorative dentistry and general dental hygiene.

“CDI College is always looking for ways to give back to the community and UBC’s Open Wide Community Clinic Day is such a great initiative to be involved with,” said Agnes Yngson, Dental Department Head at CDI College. “Not only can we help provide a service to low-income clients, our students also benefit from receiving even more hands-on training before they have to write their exams.”

CDI College has been a proud participant in community dental initiatives for a number of years and has served low-income adults, seniors and students from communities throughout the Lower Mainland including Burnaby, Vancouver, Surrey and Coquitlam.

The Dental Assisting program at CDI College is the only private dental assisting program in BC that is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC). The program provides both comprehensive and intensive education and training leading to a career as a Certified Dental Assistant. Students are exposed to activities that utilize the advances in the practice of dentistry. Graduates of this program are eligible to become candidates for the National Dental Assisting Examination Board (NDAEB) exam, which is a mandatory component for licensure and registration with the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia. Historically, graduates of the CDI Dental Assisting program have received between 97%-100% passing rates on the NDAEB since its implementation in 2007.

Open Wide Community Clinic Day will take place on September 14, 2013 from 9am to 4pm at CDI College in Burnaby. All patients will be pre-screened at CDI College on September 13, 2013. For more information on the Dental Assisting program at CDI College, please fill out the form to your right.
